We have been to PCMC this past week for a 5 year follow up with Gavin! ...let me back up a bit! He has had a little
bump on his torso, kindof where the sternums is. It has always bugged me (and have had him seen once before years ago) but this last June it started to change sizes! It was big one day and then tiny the next and it hadn't done that ever before! So I decided that was the
final straw of years of nagging that I should get him seen again! Still
no worries from the doctor which we really respect btw(both that work with Gavin here in town) but he could tell I was not letting up that easy so he referred us to Primary Children's where we had been in 2007! Dr. Uchida (who is totally awesome) found it unusual that he had the
bump at all! He said it's not really common
at all for kids to get that bump after a repaired diaphragmatic hernia! So he ordered some breathing tests to measure Gavin's lung strength(which is another story but let me just say I had my own private guilt trip for not being consistent with his inhalers last year! He is about 50%/100%, so we have some work to do) but after that test we went to x-ray! The doctor said his goodbyes and told us we would hear back in about a week for the results and further consultation from him! Well, we left the hospital at 3:10ish and took Gav to gateway for him to splash in the fountain for a few minutes and had barely parked the car around 3:30 when the phone rang. Betcha can't guess who it was! Yup the
doctor. He wasn't supposed to call us for a
week, what the heck is going on?! While Ryan talked I knew something was not right but
NEVER expected the news we got!!! (I think I was in shock when I first heard it bc since then I keep telling myself to be tough but find myself bawling out of nowhere in private and in public!)
Gavin has another diaphragmatic hernia!!!!!!!!!!! I never ever thought I would have to say that again! I never thought or wanted to go through that again! Somewhere in the last 3 years his liver has made it's way up through a hole in his diaphragm! So we see the surgeon next week to get a game plan! oh if you are wondering we still don't know what that stupid bump is! We are hoping we can find out when we meet the surgeon! Until then
prayer sounds like a good idea:)
I have read on a young couples blog a small plaque they have in their entry way that says "I CAN DO HARD THINGS" they had to bury their precious 18 month old little girl last summer! Now that is beyond my comprehension and much harder than what we are going through but that being said Gavin has gone through some crazy scary stuff in his life and we have had to take the journey with him!(which I would not change) That quote has been in my head ever since we got the news! I thank this couple for being so incredibly open with her and her husbands experiences! Otherwise who knows if I would have ever come across such a great thing! So until we know more, I will continue to run that through my head and know I will gain strength from it!
**if this couple ever jumps over to our blog I want to let them know that I think of them often and it has made me a better mom following their story**
