Just the other day, several friends and I packed up and headed a quarter mile from a friends house, practically in his back yard. There we engaged in what we all call "Lazy Man's Hunting." I had my first opportunity to go dove hunting. What a blast! Lazy Man's Hunting was exactly what it was. Just a chill day with some friends, sitting out under some trees on our camp chairs, drinking mountain dew and shooting doves. At first nothing much was happening along the lines of actually seeing the coveted bird. Occasionally one would fly through just out of range and we'd all yell for it to circle into our grove of trees, but they'd swing out, somehow knowing what was coming. Then they showed up. One after another but for some reason we were all considerably

cursed because we missed practically every shot we took. I was eventually able to harvest 5, two of which were shot midflight, and the others being dropped out of trees next to us. My buddy did about the same. It was also my first time introducing Jett, our labrador to the very reason that we adopted him. That is to be my hunting dog. From the get go he was eager to follow us wherever we went, going through brush much bigger than he was, wading through ditches in water over his head, but wagging his tail the entire time. When we finally downed our first bird, we brought it over for him to sniff and to familiarize himself with the bird. He went nuts like some instinct was triggered in him to find these birds! I tossed it off into the weeds for him to bring back to us, and sure enough he did just like a pro. The only challenge was to get him to release it without eating it, which with just a little coaxing he did. Having been his first time hunting, he did pretty darn good. It was also the first opportunity I had to take Gavin hunting with me. What a dream come true for me and something I've looked forward to my entire life. To take my boy hunting. He counted every day from 2 weeks when we began planning the trip and asked me every day if it was time to go hunting yet. He was so excited. Being that my friend lives only 2 blocks from our place, we went again two days later and this time I took Reagan and Gavin. Brandi even came up with Payton and joined us for a bit. What a fun time. Tomorrow I venture on my first bowhunt for deer! Yeeha! I love Idaho!
